Co-chair message from Archbishop James Weisgerber
The history shared between Aboriginal peoples and the Catholic community in Canada runs far back, with stories of mutual learning and shared support and an ongoing relationship that is still strong today. But there were also dark moments in that history. While many in the Aboriginal community have found hope in their families, success in their work and fulfillment in their lives, others continue to live under the shadow of a painful past.”
For decades, many patient and dedicated Aboriginal community workers have helped to bring a better life to those around them. But this hard work needs to be strengthened and sustained to make a lasting difference. A renewed partnership between Aboriginal people, business, Catholic and regional communities will combine forces and mobilize support for these efforts. Through the Moving Forward Together campaign, we recognize that while we cannot change the past, we can move forward into a shared future of mutual respect and well-being.”
